Economy Teardown - Case

Custom work projects for specific clients interested in insights on game economies

Summary

One of the largest mobile gaming companies wanted to understand the game economies of top-grossing casual titles.

Specifically, our client wanted to know:

  • The rate players gain access to new game content

  • The reward value (in dollars) players earn from various sources

  • How quickly players grow their in game real estate

  • The session length and biggest impacts to session length

Liquid and Grit derived analysis from three player types and over two weeks of daily game data collection.

Methodology and Breakdown

Our insights team implemented and analyzed classifications of player types over two weeks, with 60-90 minutes of play per day. Players were segmented into classes based on player-spend behavior.

We investigated player progress, engagement with features, expansion of in-game real estate, and session length in detail, each along several measures, and interpreted the data in terms of dollar-value received.

Deliverables

We compiled all of these findings in a comprehensive report along with several spreadsheets containing the entirety of the exhaustive investigation.

The final analysis included graphs, summaries, and insights in a Google Spreadsheet.

Process

The project is first outlined in a Google Document so that the developer and Liquid and Grit have a clear understanding of the goals, final outcome, and information to be delivered.

All of our custom work is then tracked in a shared Dropbox paper document, with all parties having access if desired. You can see exactly how the project is progressing and make suggestions and comments directly in our documents where necessary. With the scope determined ahead of time to your specific project specifications, Liquid and Grit’s team of analysts can generally prepare a market report like this one every three months for your organization.

Estimate Costs

With your organization’s specific needs established, Liquid and Grit will supply a cost estimate based on time to research, analyze, and process deliverables, as well as the specific combination of analysts, lead analysts, managers, and partners required to complete your request.

Factoring project set-up, data extraction, research, analysis, and deliverable processing, the estimated cost for this report is $25-60K, depending on your team’s specifications.
